The mission achievement, "Red Lobster", requires the brutalisk to be killed by lava surge on normal difficulty. The richest mineral nodes are on low ground. In the Wings of Liberty mission, " The Devil's Playground," lava surges impede resource gathering. Lava takes a more dynamic role in certain missions, where it may rise and fall to flood low-lying areas of the map.
Lava appears on maps as unpassable terrain and doodads and has no gameplay effect.
